How did Hitler react when he learned that Mussolini had been captured and executed by his own people during World War II?

Adolf Hitler received news about Benito Mussolini's capture and killing while he remained hidden in his underground Berlin bunker. The Italian population mistreated Mussolini's flesh until onlookers strung him upside down at a Milan gas station. Hitler was aware of the disturbing photographs regardless of whether he personally viewed them two days before his death.

Hitler spoke to his close assistant SS Major Otto Günsche as he understood the Soviets intended to get him alive while he was trapped in his position. The Nazi leader conveyed to his bodyguard Otto Günsche that he needed his remains eliminated after he passed away. The preparation for his end became apparently evident when Hitler conversed with Eva Braun and his secretaries about methods to kill himself.

Due to his position as Germany’s leader Hitler determined he should refuse any possibility of living as Soviet prisoner. His concern about capture involved fears that Russians would display him like an animal trapped in a cage. During his last moment Hitler ended himself by taking a self-inflicted bullet to his brain plus chewing a cyanide pellet. The recent marriage between Eva Braun and Hitler compelled her to consume poison because she wanted her corpse intact.

Günsche prevented identification of the bodies by soaking them with twenty fuel cans before conducting an outside fire. Further destruction of what remained occurred because of the heavy Russian artillery shelling in this area.

The Soviet forces captured Günsche as an inmate who later spent 11 years behind bars. During Soviet inquiries he faced physical abuse even after they had obtained evidence of Hitler's death such as dental records with bone fragments. The Soviets treated Günsche harshly because they believed he secretly kept Hitler's remains despite already knowing the death of their historical figure.
