What was the most impressive demonstration of skill or genius you have seen in the military?

One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen was when a friend of mine shot a 40mm grenade under a moving car from 200 meters away.

We were ambushing some paramilitaries who had been looting a village in Kosovo when, suddenly, a civilian car sped in from our right. It was clearly reinforcements for the paramilitaries.

My friend quickly switched from his AK-47 to a Milkor Multiple Grenade Launcher (MGL), aimed for just a moment, and fired. The grenade hit the ground right under the car and exploded. The blast flattened all four tires and stopped the car instantly, going from eighty to zero in a second.

For a moment, everything was still. Then, the people inside the car jumped out and ran into a nearby field, disappearing behind rows of corn.

I was stunned. My friend hadn’t practiced much with the MGL, which made the shot even more incredible. Sure, there was some luck involved, but it was still an amazing moment. Hitting a moving car with an MGL is nearly impossible, and anyone who’s used one knows how hard it is to aim.

Later, he proved how skilled he was by hitting targets from all kinds of distances and angles. But that shot, on that day, was his best by far.
